Healthy Habits = Healthy Turn-Over
There is an old saying “Memories are the sheep, habit is the shepherd”, this stands true in business as much as it does in your personal life. Your turn-over is a direct result of your daily habits.
How do we remove a bad habit? We can’t, that is the scary part. What we can do is replace it with a healthy habit, but removing it altogether is not a possibility. Now you may ask, how does one do that…?
The part in your brain where memories are stored is completely different to the part in your brain that relates to habit. This means we can retrain our brains, and replace our bad habits with good ones. We do this by using the ” Cue, Routine, Reward Loop” how does this work.
“Rather, to change a habit, you must keep the old cue, and deliver the old reward, but insert a new routine.”
― Charles Duhigg, The Power Of Habit: Why We Do What We Do In Life And Business
Example: I have always wanted to run on a regular basis as it is a great meditation and good for your health, I was never able get into a routine of running 3 times a week, until I discovered the cue, routine, reward loop. I made sure I run at the same time everyday, listened to the same 8 tracks while running and tried a different restaurant at the end of the week to reward myself for sticking to my weekly routine. In this way my brain got the cue to run every time I pushed play on my iPod, the routine, running while listening to the same 8 tracks, and the reward being a nice meal at a new place, as easy as 1 2 3…..
Successful business owners do not do extraordinary things, they do ordinary things, but they do it much better and faster than their competitors, because it is a habit, something you do not consciously think about.
